Bone Densitometry

Health Resources:
Bone densitometry
measures the density of the spine, hip and other bones—the most frequent sites of fracture—and compares it to an established norm. A bone density test is a relatively simple, quick and painless way to determine your bone health.
Osteoporosis
One in every two women older than 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture at some point in her life. You can reduce your risk for osteoporosis by getting regular weight-bearing exercise and boosting your calcium and vitamin D intake.
Bone Densitometry

Northern Louisiana Medical Center offers bone density testing. Bone density, or densitometry, is an exciting advancement in technology designed to detect osteoporosis or the risk of developing the disease. It is a quick and painless procedure performed by experienced radiology personnel.

*Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones, increasing the risk of sudden and unexpected fractures. This exam measures the bone density in the spine and hip- which is then used to estimate the strength of your bones.

Further information about Bone Densitometry, including ways to prepare for the examination, can be obtained by calling Sheri Burns, NLMC Director of Radiology at 318-254-2461 or by logging on to http://www.radiologyinfo.org.

If you are a physician, in need of scheduling a patient, please call Central Scheduling at 318-254-2791.
